I find myself often with too much free time that can not be filled with being productive mind-numbing video games or teaching myself how to program trying to start teaching myself how to program and then making myself believe I’ll do it in the summer. I have filled this time with attempting to solve real-world issues. After many debates with the voices in my head about the economy, and our dependency on oil, and the lack of any space program that would be able to set up a colony on another planet after we deplete the resources in this one, to name a few, we I concluded that the problem behind all these smaller problems was that our system of government put people who were not able to effectively choose leaders that would be able to benefit mankind as a whole, or often the people who chose the leader, in charge of the government. While there are people within the general public that are able to make a good decision with their vote, their votes count no more than an irrational simpleton that has no idea what the word government even means. And even if a person has an okay understanding of the way government works (which I believe most people do), it is still rather easy for them to make a poor decision.
Because of this, I have formed two (not really) solutions for this. One: we breed the human species so that everyone has an IQ of no less than 150 (by today’s standards) and is a governmental savant*. Two: we implement a system of government I have dubbed “Intelligent Democracy”. Intelligent Democracy describes a system of Democracy that requires the electing people to be qualified to elect, based on mental ability above or equal to a certain standard (if it is direct democracy, then they are qualified to represent). This could be implemented in a few different ways, but the best possibility I have determined is thus: Set a standard in schools to learn more about democracy, how the government works, the issues that the modern world faces, ect. Also have courses that teach students how to resist the advertising ploys that people campaigning for governmental jobs, and how to make a logical decision when choosing leaders. Of course these classes would be free to regular students, and adults that failed the test in step two. Two: a standardized test is made, that, if failed, does not allow people to vote. This is simply to make sure that only people who are able to effectively choose a good leader can vote.
This is a very** crude description, and still a work in progress. I’d appreciate any constructive criticism, and if you tell me any faults you see in my plan, post a comment and I’ll try and respond with a solution.
Also, if anyone has already thought up a system similar to this, I would like a link.
